Tottenham will try to extend the Reds' winless streak in this top-of-the-table clash in North London. The Spurs are currently fifth with 33 points, one place and one point behind Liverpool. In addition, Tottenham have a match in hand., so they are genuine title pretenders. The fans are desperate to end a 60-year wait for title. The Spurs are favorites in the derby, mainly due to the home advantage. The overall form is good, Tottenham have lost just three of their past 30 matches in all competitions, winning 18 games. The current form is also good, one victory and one draw on the last two matches in the Premier League. The North London outfit dropped two important points against Fulham, but managed to beat Sheffield United with 3:1 in the last league match. Serge Aurier opened the scoring early on when he headed home Son's corner, while Harry Kane doubled the lead with his 12th league goal of the season just before half-time, driving a superb low strike from outside the box. Tanguy Ndombele set the final 3:0 with his stunning goal in the 62nd minute. On Monday Tottenham beat Wycombe Wanderers with 4:1 in the FA Cup. The victory was high, but not easy. The Championship outfit scored first in 25th minute through Fred Onyedinma, but Gareth Bale equalized before the halftime, hooking in Lucas Moura's cross. And just when everybody thought the game will go in extra-time, Tottenham showed their class and scored three goals through Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele (double scorer). I believe the atmosphere in the squad is good, while the players confidence is higher. Mourinho has no important missing players, only Giovani Lo Celso is out injured. Dele Alli and Matt Doherty are unlikely to play in this match.
The crisis in Liverpool squad continues. The Reds are in series of bad results in all competitions. They are without a single victory on the last five matches in the Premier League. Even worse, Klopp's men have failed to score on four of these five matches. The last scorer in the league was Sadio Mane against West Bromwich in December. Liverpool players have had a total of 87 shots since that goal, but failed to score. They have dropped on the fourth place, a point ahead of Tottenham. At the time of playing, Liverpool could be even lower on the table if Everton or West Ham won their matches. Jurgen Klopp is under heavy pressure, he is desperate for his side to bounce back after the last bad results. The FA Cup was not an exception at all. After they beat the Aston Villa youngsters in the third round, lost 3:2 to Manchester United in the fourth. The defeats from the biggest rivals are always painful, but this time particularly as it aggravated the crisis. The fans are disappointed and they are asking for improvement. Thiago Alcantara is under heavy pressure as many pundits pointed the finger to him. According to Dietmar Hamann, he is slowing Jurgen Klopp’s side down as an attacking force. The Spanish playmaker is not changing Liverpool for the better despite being a brilliant player. The former defender Jamie Carragher, meanwhile, described the clubs transfer inactivity in January as ‘preposterous’. However, Klopp still believes in Thiago and the other players. The injury situation remain tough - key defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are long-term injury victims, while Diogo Jota shouldn’t be expected back until mid-February at the earliest. Naby Keita remains sidelined, while captain Jordan Henderson is rated as doubtful.
Tottenham vs Liverpool Prediction:
Liverpool are in deepest crisis in the last several years and Jurgen Klopp looks unable to handle the situation. They haven't scored on the last four matches in the Premier League and suffered elimination from the FA Cup after lost 3:2 to Manchester United during the weekend. If something could be rated as positive, that's the fact Mohamed Salah scored two goals at Old Trafford. Tottenham are in solid form at the moment and I don't think they will lose here.
